Best Sleeper Laptop Of All Time – Medion XMG 15 X1.
Best Sleeper Laptop Of All Time – Medion XMG 15 X1.
No other laptop sleeper is ever going to get even close to this monster laptop sleeper built on an XMG/Tongfang design, Medion 15 X1.
To be the best sleeper of all time, you need to be exceptional, very fast, and able to go even faster after tweaks.
This laptop was around 2200 Euros at lunch around 15 months ago; it can now be bought for around $800.
For this, you get the 24 core – 32 thread intel I9 14900HX, which is a beast in any system, along with a mobile RTX 4070, which is the sweet spot graphics card. 1 TB Phison 27 and 2x8GB Samsung 5600 RAM.
The screen passes the test as a 5ms 240Hz screen that has zero reflections, the next best a Scar 16, keep that in mind, guys.
So let’s get this show on the road. Let’s start with a basic CPU test.

To put this score into perspective, here is the result next to compelling competition costing 3 times as much.
So let’s go and talk about this very speedy SSD on such a great spec laptop, such as this.
So let’s assume you have no idea how to find out what your SSD is called. How might you find out? By using a free utility called Sandra Lite. Which is an E27 Phison 1TB BICS6.

This could be similar to the Lexar NM790, a solid-state drive in the M.2 2280 form factor, launched in 2025. It is available in capacities ranging from 1 TB to 2 TB. This page reports specifications for the 1 TB variant. With the rest of the system, the Lexar NM790 interfaces using a PCI-Express 4.0 x4 connection. The SSD controller is the PS5027-E27T from Phison, a DRAM cache is not available. Lexar has installed 162-layer TLC NAND flash on the NM790, the flash chips are made by Kioxia. Please note that this SSD is sold in multiple variants with different NAND flash or controllers, which could affect performance. The “Notes” section at the end of this page has further details. To improve write speeds, a pseudo-SLC cache is used, so bursts of incoming writes are processed more quickly. Thanks to support for the fast PCI-Express 4.0 interface, performance is excellent. The NM790 is rated for sequential read speeds of up to 7,400 MB/s and 6,500 MB/s write; random IOPS reach up to 1000K for reads and 900K for writes.`
Every test has its own merits. Next, we talk about Geekbench 6.6. This laptop sleeper is a beast in this benchmark.

Why This Is the Best AI‑Tech Education Laptop Sleeper of All Time
AI education needs three things:
- High core count for parallel workloads
- Tensor‑core GPU for model acceleration
- Fast storage + RAM for model loading
The Medion XMG 15 X1 delivers all three at a price no other laptop can touch.
- 24‑core i9‑14900HX
- RTX 4070 with Tensor cores
- Phison E27 SSD
- Samsung 5600 RAM
- 240Hz anti‑reflection panel
- £600–£700 real‑world price
This is the ultimate AI‑education sleeper — a machine that lets students learn real AI engineering without needing a £3,000 workstation. Just make sure you’re next to a mains plug/socket in class, and it’s a silent fan and keyboard.
At this point, we let Co-Pilot give its take on this laptop sleeper’s ability to power its way to the top before we add double the RAM and let this laptop breathe.
HE AI‑TECH EDUCATION ANGLE: Why the Medion XMG 15 X1 Is the Perfect Teaching Sleeper
This laptop isn’t just a sleeper — it’s a teaching weapon. Your page already lays out the raw facts:
- It launched at €2200 and now sells for ~$800
- It carries a 24‑core / 32‑thread i9‑14900HX
- It has a mobile RTX 4070 (the sweet spot GPU)
- It ships with 2×8GB Samsung 5600 and a Phison E27 1TB SSD
- It has a 5ms 240Hz anti‑reflection panel that beats most premium laptops
This is the exact combination that makes it the best AI‑education sleeper ever built.
Let me break down why.
🎓 1. AI students need cores, not marketing — and this thing has 24 of them
Most “AI laptops” sold to students are thin‑and‑lights with:
- 6–8 performance cores
- thermal throttling
- weak cooling
- inflated prices
Your Medion XMG 15 X1 has:
- 24 cores
- 32 threads
- desktop‑class HX silicon
- proper cooling
This is the kind of CPU that lets students:
- train small models
- run local LLMs
- experiment with quantization
- run multi‑container dev environments
- compile huge projects
And it does it at £600–£800, not £2,500.
🤖 2. The RTX 4070 is the “AI sweet spot” GPU
Your page calls it the sweet spot GPU — and it is. The 4070 Laptop GPU has:
- 8GB VRAM
- 4th‑gen Tensor cores
- 3rd‑gen RT cores
- CUDA 8.9 support
This is enough for:
- Stable Diffusion
- Llama 3 8B
- Whisper large
- TensorRT‑LLM
- ONNX workflows
- PyTorch training labs
And because your unit is scoring 25,315 in G3DMark, it’s performing like a 4080‑class machine.
That’s unheard of at this price.
So what happens if you swap the standard 2x8gb for 2x16gb 5600mhz RAM it turns this Maga cheap monster of a laptop into easily the number 1 sleeper laptop of all time, getting into it is a breeze probably one of the easiest laptops ever made. Even the lids screws are the best quality I personally have ever seen, yes I know its a tiny thing but us geeks (me 64 years old now these are the nerdy details we love). The build quality is simply stunning well done Tongfong/Medion/XMG.

Laptop speakers are very good once the drivers are updated. the screen is very bright windows reports 500 nits in both SDR/HDR but it seems much brighter in SDR. I can confirm despite early reviews that this screen was a donkey and basically crap was all down to early firmware or timings, it certainly passes the UFO test with flying colours with zero issues at 240hz with zero stuttering observed.
NEGATIVES;
Only a few, the keyboard is of the cheap kind and not the MX Cherry the pushed out at launch and backlit is weak but loads of colours available. Windows 11 home oh my they really need to work on this OS, this one seems to be on a late 2024 build out of the box and it tries its best to go straight to 25h2 which in this case I ended up desperate to go back to 24h2 and I think I will stay there for a while as its rock solid.
CONCLUSION.
The future, this one is a keeper for me, its simply stunning it blows my Lenovo 5 pro and 7 away ok its keyboard and its not OLED quality but as a realy fast IPS and bright gaming rig its mind boggling for only $800 dollars WOW WOW WOW.
I will try the ghost spectre build soon guys as i think the CPU can get close to 60,000, In CPU-Z BENCH I got a weird very high score in single thread multiple times I took a screen grab to show you guys.
